Bhagwathi nature camp is the starting point for the many treks which are listed for the Ecotrails package. Bhagwathi nature camp has decent accommodation in Swiss tents and dormitory.
The famous Castlerock-Dudhsagar trek has two options one to trek from the top of the ridge and the other a fairly easy trek on the windswept lateritic grassland called Gowdsada very close to the Goa border.
The Barpali-Kadra view point is a fine trek which will take one on the undulating hills and ends up with a grand view of the Kali river overlooking the Kadra dam.
The Kulgi-Nagzari Valley trek offers great vistas of the Nagzari valley and great trek with good opportunities for amazing birding.
Karnataka ecotrails has a basecamp at Hemmadaga with a tented facility to start the Bhimgad landscape treks. It is 2o kms away from Khanapur.
The Kurinjal peak trek in Kudremukh landscape is one of the most exciting day treks I have ever taken…. the mosaic of evergreen forest, sholas and grasslands is stunning. Then you have amazing biodiversity …. birds, butterflies and I even saw a pit Viper snake. Can you ask for more?
Hiking in the jungle is nothing short of magic and has always been an elusive dream for people in India. With Ecotrails, a longstanding dream becomes reality. Not only is it a great opportunity to hike through the pristine forest areas but also to learn from experience nature guides and understand the land, its flora and fauna.
It was always a dream for me to know what a forest trek experience is all about, thankfully I took the Ecotrails trek and realized that trekking is not just about walking but learning about nature but at the same time finding peace with myself. City lifestyles rob you of the basic pleasure of discovering your senses, these treks make your senses come alive.
I thoroughly enjoyed the great trek and the great company during my Kulgi-Nagzari valley trek. We even came close to see a leopard because the pugmarks on the track was fresh, lots of Hornbills, Giant squirrels. The nature guides make sure you stay focused. I made fantastic new friends.
I looked forward for this trek experience and it was certainly tough but thoroughly enjoyable. I could actually soak in the forest, crossed streams which was so clean and fresh. I could actually differentiate birds based on their calls. The jungles on foot is a very different experience than a jeep safari.
I trekked to both the picturesque Kudremukh peaks and the breathtaking Castlerock-Doodhsagar falls. The Eco Trails experience begins with the base camps itself, complete with simple scrumptious meals and modest cozy tents. Our nature guides added to the whole experience; helping us with wildlife sightings, keeping the group at one pace, even saving us from leeches and the rain! A weekend well spent!
